A data mining specialist leverages various data sources (internal data, internet searches, other available data providers) to collect information about a targeted profile or group of potential prospects. These prospects may not be known, or unknown and need to be sought. Data mining provides a research resource to collect the information you need to begin your client engagements.
A Lead Generation position includes a heavy amount of daily outbound calling, is more focused on direct contact with prospects than on data mining (though there can be elements of both). Lead Generation can identify prospects, qualify them, profile them, and set appointments for your field sales teams. These positions are goal and metric driven.
Inside Sales Rep Level I
A Level I ISR requires a skill set to engage customers (current and new) and advance either the demand or actual sales cycle. This ISR is typically teamed up with an outbound rep who might be responsible for closing the deals the ISR advances. ISRs are metric-driven and typically carry a quota (team or individual) in terms of building an opportunity pipeline or actual sales.
Inside Sales Rep Level II
A Level II ISR requires a skill set to engage customers (current and new) and advance either the demand or actual sales cycle. This ISR is essentially an outbound rep in an office. They can manage a territory or vertical market. These are the more highly compensated sales professionals. They typically have an incentive plan and they are capable of generating millions in revenue each year, depending on the product and size of the deal.
